Kingston Heath GC

Courses

Where to begin, Kingston Heath is not short on accolades as it consistenly ranks in the Top 50 courses worldwide. The course itself is brilliant beyond comprehension. In many ways it should be the model for any new courses. The land is pedestrian but the routing and the design elevate it to something that is hard to describe. I guess it doesn't hurt that you have one of the most unique places top build, given it is smack dab in the middle of Melbourne Sandbelt but after playing other courses in the area that don't even come close to comparing to it, I'm more strongly entrenched in my belief that this place is about as special as it gets!

Here's some of my favorite photos from my day at KHGC.

Old school simplicity is the name of the game at Kingston Heath
The width and corridors of each hole (this is no. 1) is beyond aspirational
Alister Mackenzie's bunkering is but another masterclass that you can learn from at Kingston Heath
Green sites seem impossibly natural and perfect
KHGC pays the right amount of attention to the things that matter and then lets nature do its thing with elements like the scruffy rough
Again... the bunkering <chef's kiss>

I'm obviously not the first to make this realization but Australian has a lot of really great courses. From Melbourne's Sandbelt to the blossoming scene on Tasmania, this country is punching way above its weight. But the point that I would make here is that Kingston Heath is the one that captured my heart. It's a golf purist's place to play. The focus is squarely on the golf and every detail supports that.

Beau Scroggins

Beau is a highly regarded mid-amateur golfer. Some say he's the best golfer that lives between 45th and 47th Avenues in San Francisco. He has twice made the cut in the San Francisco City Championship and routinely halves matches against his friends. He's played golf on three continents and finally made a hole in one.
